Mississauga Canada Day Celebrations Locations:

Living Arts Centre — beginning at noon, the LAC kicks off a vibrant afternoon of creativity and entertainment with several craft activities, demonstrations and musical performances. Children are invited to make Canadian flag bugs and butterflies, as well as moose, beaver and bear puppets — and if they need a few tips, there will be painting, pottery and glass demonstrations run by local artists.

Other performances include aboriginal drumming and dancing by Tribal Vision and singing by the Mississauga Choral Society, to name a few.

Guests can also get their faces painted, take in a magic show at the RBC Theatre or enjoy free movies being screened in Hammerson Hall.

And what's Canada Day without the national anthem? The Mississauga Arts Council will be hosting a flash mob singing of O Canada at 2:45 p.m.

LAC festivities wrap up at 4 p.m.

For more, visit livingartscentre.ca.

Celebration Square — the City Centre hot spot is holding Canada Day festivities starting at 4 p.m. The free party will see Afro-Brazillian dancers, capoeira performances, a cirque show, the Carlos Bastidas Band and an extreme slam dunk competition — all of which will set the table for a main course of notable musical performances.

Main stage acts include Juno-nominated Torontonians Down With Webster, indie rockers Young Empires and Eleven Past One as well as beatboxer Sophie Kiddbeatz and sibling deejay duo Kissette.

The show is hosted by Global Toronto's Leslie Roberts and Liza Fromer.

The event will also feature opening ceremonies, with Mayor Hazel McCallion and members of City Council, food trucks and a dazzling fireworks display slated for 10:30 p.m.

For more, visit mississauga.ca.

Port Credit — the 10th annual Paint the Town Red Canada Day Festival starts at 11 a.m. with its grand parade, running from Lakeshore Rd. and Stavebank Rd. to Seneca Ave.

Following the celebratory march, which will be led by McCallion and Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans, there will be a Canada Day cake-cutting ceremony at La Villa Bakery on Lakeshore. (Word is that the cake is the "largest Canada Day cake in the country.")

Once they've finished their slice, guests can trot over to Port Credit Memorial Park for an afternoon chock-full of live entertainment including Creedence Clearwater Revival (Bayou Boys), ABBA (ABBAmania) and The Eagles (Hotel California) tribute bands as well as Mississauga singer Suzie McNeil, to list a few.

Closing out the show, performer and Juno-nominated rocker Tom Barlow will be leading an O Canada sing-along at 10 p.m. to usher in the spectacular fireworks display.

There will also be an after party at Ten Restaurant and Wine Bar with Beach Boys tribute band Endless Summer and Pauly and the Goodfellas History of Rock and Soul entertaining guests.

For more, visit paintthetownred.ca.

Streetsville — due to construction at Streetsville Village Square, this year's Canada Day celebration will be taking place at Streetsville Memorial Park. The 21st annual event kicks off at 6 p.m. and promises to be an exciting evening for the entire family with crafts, carnival games, face painting and balloon animals.

Do you have a Mountie hat or a beaver costume? Well, there will be a contest for best Canada Day costume as well as a donut-eating competition for good measure.

With Canada Day cakes provided by the Lions Club of Streetsville added to the mix, attendees should leave some room in their stomachs for hot dogs and hamburgers, courtesy of the Rotary Club.

As for musical entertainment, the Streetsville Musicorp Justus, country musicians The Paul Malysa Band, students from Strings Attached Music School and Streetsville Pipes and Drums will surely have the crowd dancing, leading up to the evening's headliner, the Christian James Band.

Headed by hometown musician Christian Kennerney, the band's mix of Celtic, country and folk will hit the stage at 9 p.m.

And the fireworks show begins at 10 p.m.

For more, visit villageofstreetsville.com.

Residents looking to shop on Canada Day are reminded that Square One Shopping Centre will be open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. while Erin Mills Town Centre will be closed.

    Half Life
The award-winning author of Possible Worlds brings us the poetic and moving mediation on identity, aging and the nature of memory. What shines through when memory fades away? Two nursing home residents, both in their 80's, meet and fall in love, rekindling what might have been a wartime romance. Had they previously met somewhere else under different circumstances? Why is their love so troubling for their children? Indeed, the light at dusk is sometimes warmer and more enveloping than that of the midday sun. Characters navigate between being and appearance, between cowardice and dissoluteness.
